Little Twister Class (ages 4-6)
Where the Wild Things Are Musical Theatre Production Class
Time: Tuesdays 4-4:45 PM
January 14 – March 4
Instructors: John Rea and Joey Schulman
Tuition: $220
You’ve read Maurice Sendak’s sensational award winning book, Where the Wild Things Are. Now it’s time to follow Max live on stage as they travel to a strange and wonderful island of dancing beasts. John Rea has adapted the story and written several songs for the short musical. Learn how to memorize lines, speak, sing and dance for an audience. Find your voice and build confidence as you learn to speak and sing clearly…all the way to the BACK ROW! Coordinate your body and create dance moves that reveal character. There will be a performance of the musical on the last day of class, Tuesday, March 4th at 4:30pm; at the end, each actor will take their professional bow!

Musical Theatre – Broadway’s Best
Time: Saturdays 9-10 AM

Featuring songs from Anastasia, The Lion King, Mary Poppins, and Beauty and the Beast, you will strengthen your confidence and musical theatre presence. Learn to project your voice, take your dance moves to the next level, and interpret these fantastic songs as only you can.
From Page to Stage featuring Paint By Numbers
Time: Saturdays 10-11 AM
Instructor: Jen Jaynes
Tuition: $220
Let’s jump into the black and white world of Jen Jaynes’, Paint By Numbers: A Mystery. Siblings, Dorothy, Leo, Toby, and Mira, while on a walk in the park with their babysitter, Linda, stumble into another dimension: the black and white world of a paint by numbers book! What they don’t realize, is that this other world is in dire need of their help. Can they help solve the mystery of a missing color before they lose all color of their own? As we work together towards a culminating performance of this short play, you will gain experience and practice the building blocks of acting including: memorization, projecting your voice, and using your body to express yourself. Your confidence as an actor will grow as you create fully formed, three dimensional characters! The live performance will be on Saturday, March 9 at 5pm.
Production Class featuring Roald Dahl’s, The Witches
Time: Saturdays 11 AM – 12:30 PM or Wednesdays 4:30p – 5:30p
Instructors: John Rea and Tina Lynch (Saturdays) / Jen Jaynes (Wednesdays)
Tuition: $270 (1.5 hour class Saturdays) or $220 (1 hour class Wednesdays)

While on vacation at a seaside resort a young boy discovers that a coven of witches (male and female) is having a big national meeting, where they plot to rid the world of vile children. With the help of his grandmother, he sets out to stop them. With a fun score containing plenty of solo opportunities, this whimsical musical offers great parts for young actors. Learn how to project your voice and develop your character. Get into the act of working with an ensemble to tell a dramatic story.
There will be a performance on Wednesday, March 6 at 5pm for the Wednesday cast and Saturday, March 9 at 6 PM for the Saturday cast. The cast size is limited so sign up today!

Your Story On Stage

Remember the first time you had to be a leader, had to shop by yourself, or had to make a cake for your friend’s birthday party? Philadelphia Playwright, Gigi McGraw will help and guide you to develop a story from your life to our stage. Actors from the class will be your characters. Learn how to find drama and comedy from your own experiences and transform them into inspiring and funny short scenes. There will be a short performance of the scenes on the final day of class.
Musical Theatre featuring Rock Musical Dance
Time: 10-11 AM
Instructor: John Rea and Caleb Tracy
Tuition: $220
Ready to take your dancing skills to the next level? This musical theatre class will feature sizzling rock musical songs hot off of Broadway’s stages. Strengthen your confidence and musical theatre presence. Learn to project your voice, build your dance moves repertoire, and interpret these fantastic songs as only you can.
Production Class featuring Scenes from Shakespeare’s Tragedies
Time: 11 AM – 12:30 PM
Instructor: Liz Fredette
Tuition: $270
“Experience is the teacher of all things.” Get your Shakespeare experience right here. We’ll be performing classic scenes from Shakespeare’s tragedies, including, Hamlet, Othello, MacBeth and more. Challenge yourself to step into the tragic shoes of these characters from some of the the greatest plays ever written. Learn to break down the language and put a Shakespearean character into your body. Learn to memorize your lines, project your voice, enunciate clearly, and animate your body to fit the character. There will be a live performance on Saturday, March 9 at 7:30 PM.
Comedy Improv
Time: 1-2 PM or 2-3 PM
Instructor: Jen Jaynes
Tuition: $220
Making people laugh is one of the great joys in life. Get your funny on while you learn to create comedy on the spot, using simple suggestions and your own top-of-your-head responses. Comedy and the ability to bring humor to a situation serves you in every aspect of your life. We have a long tradition of creating comedy improv at MacGuffin, with our expert comedians performing in This Side Up Comedy Improv Troupe. This class is a perfect first step in learning how to work with partners, make up wacky jokes and characters, and test your limits…all while having a great time! If you like the tv show Whose Line is it Anyway, you can’t miss this class!

Take your acting to the next level. Get to the heart of your character. Discover how to break down dialogue, move with purpose, and build a character. Work with props and discover how they can help you reveal character. Practice building your memory skills, projecting your voice, and enunciating clearly. We’ll be employing scenes from contemporary dramas and comedies. This class is essential for actors who would like to audition for their school shows.

MacGuffin’s NEW After School Program
Winter 2024 Session
With plenty of parts to go around, including featured roles as well as ensemble parts these productions are sure to get you into the act and having tons of fun. Strengthen your confidence and musical theatre presence. Learn to project your voice, take your dance moves to the next level, and interpret these fantastic musicals as only you can.
Pick-up: MacGuffin teachers will pick up actors at Greenfield Elementary School at 3 PM and walk them 2 blocks to our theatre at the Adrienne (2030 Sansom Street, 2nd Floor). Parents can pick up their young actor at 5 PM at MacGuffin. They will meet you in the Adrienne Lobby.

With equal measures of pluck and positivity, little orphan Annie charms everyone’s hearts despite a next-to-nothing start in 1930s New York City. Annie is determined to find the parents who abandoned her years ago on the doorstep of an orphanage run by the cruel Miss Hannigan. Annie eventually foils Miss Hannigan’s evil machinations, finding a new home and family in billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his personal secretary, Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.

Tuition for classes and production classes can be fully refundable up until January 6. After that, 50% of tuition can be refundable up until 9:30am, January 20.
For the After School Program tuition can be fully refundable up until January 1. After that, 50% of tuition can be refundable up until 2 PM on January 9. For the Spring Session tuition can be fully refundable up until March 5. After that, 50% of tuition can be refundable up until 2 PM on March 19.
