Little Twister Classes (ages 4-6)

Toys Come to Life Plus

Tuesdays
Time: 4-4:45 PM
January 17 - March 7
Instructor: John Rea and Jen Jaynes

What if your toys came to life? Let your imaginations soar as you become some of your favorite toys from various animated films like Toy Story and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. We'll be singing You've Got a Friend in Me, The Island of Misfit Toys, I Can't Let You Throw Yourself Away and more. Learn how to speak, sing and dance for an audience. Find your voice and build confidence as you learn to speak and sing clearly…all the way to the BACK ROW! Coordinate your body and create dance moves that reveal character.  There will be a performance of the songs from the class on the last day of class, Tuesday, March 7th at 4:30pm; at the end, each actor will take their professional bow!

Youth Classes (Ages 7-10)

From Page to Stage 

Time: 9-10 AM

Let’s jump into the wintry world of Daniel Kirk's, Snow Family. There is magic in the frosty air one morning, as a little boy discovers a mischievous band of snow children scurrying past his parent’s barn. But when he realizes that the snow children don’t have any snow parents to take care of them, he devises a way to make their snow family complete. As we work together towards a culminating performance of this short play, you will gain experience and practice the building blocks of acting including: memorization, projecting your voice, and using your body to express yourself. Your confidence as an actor will grow as you create fully formed, three dimensional characters! The live performance will be on Saturday, March 11 at 5pm.

Production Class featuring Why Mosquitos Buzz in People's Ears

Time: 11 AM - 12:30 PM
Instructors: John Rea and Tina Lynch
Price: $270

Be part of a musical by John Rea, based on the West African tale, Why Mosquitos Buzz in People's Ears. Mosquito lies to Iguana, who puts sticks in his ears and ends up frightening a snake, which down a long line causes a panic. In the end, an owlet is inadvertently killed and Owl is too sad to wake Sun until the animals hold court and find out who is responsible. With a fun score containing plenty of solo opportunities, this musical with a life lesson offers great parts for young actors. Learn how to project your voice and develop your character. Get into the act of working with an ensemble to tell a dramatic story. There will be a performance on Saturday, March 11 at 6 PM. The cast size is limited so sign up today!

Live Television Acting
Time: 9-10 AM

Ready for your close up on live television? Learn how to perform a monologue using a teleprompter (a computer screen with rolling text placed just above the camera). Practice live interviews with hosts about you and your career. Develop the communication skills you need when making your own TikTok or YouTube videos. Turn your room into a studio and get your name and work out there!


Musical Theatre featuring Hadestown
Time: 10-11 AM

Take a deep dive into the Underworld in Anais Mitchell's Tony Award winning musical Hadestwon. We'll be exploring Why We Build the Wall, Way Down Hadestown,  Livin' It Up on Top and more. Strengthen your confidence and musical theatre presence. Learn to project your voice, take your dance moves to the next level, and interpret these fantastic songs as only you can.


Acting with Props

Time: 10-11 AM
Instructor: Jen Jaynes
Price: $220

This class is one of the most important ones an actor can take! Learn how to make props in a scene help you to define your character. From coins to canes to letters, you will discover how to use objects to create tension, comedy and heartbreak. There will also be scenes where you will have to eat and drink in character. Don’t miss this opportunity to take your acting to the next level.


Shakespeare Production Class featuring Pyramus and Thisbe

Time: 11 AM - 12:30 PM

“Experience is the teacher of all things.” Get your Shakespeare experience right here. We'll be performing the hilarious Pyramus and Thisbe rehearsal and performance scenes from A Midsummer Night's Dream. Become the wacky and slapstick Mechanicals: Bottom, Quince, Snug, Flute, Snout, Starveling and others we're adding. Learn to break down the language and put a Shakespearean character into your body.  Learn to memorize your lines, project your voice, enunciate clearly, and animate your body to fit the character. There will be a live performance on Saturday, March 11 at 7:30 PM.


Comedy Improv
Time: 1-2 PM

Making people laugh is one of the great joys in life. Get your funny on while you learn to create comedy on the spot, using simple suggestions and your own top-of-your-head responses. Comedy and the ability to bring humor to a situation serves you in every aspect of your life. We have a long tradition of creating comedy improv at MacGuffin, with our expert comedians performing in This Side Up Comedy Improv Troupe. This class is a perfect first step in learning how to work with partners, make up wacky jokes and characters, and test your limits…all while having a great time! If you like the tv show Whose Line is it Anyway, you can’t miss this class!

Most classes are 1 hour in length. Exceptions:
- Production Classes (90 minutes)
- Little Twister Classes (45 minutes)

Tuition can be fully refundable up until January 1. After that, 50% of tuition can be refundable up until 9:30am, January 21.
