Little Twister Classes (ages 4-6)

Encanto Plus

Tuesdays
Time: 4-4:45 PM
September 13 - November 1
Instructors: Jen Jaynes and John Rea
Price: $220

Welcome to the magical place that is Encanto! Imaginations spring to life as you become characters from the Disney hit movie. Perform Waiting on a Miracle, Surface Pressure, We Don't Talk About Bruno and more. Learn how to speak, sing and dance for an audience. Find your voice and build confidence as you learn to speak and sing clearly…all the way to the BACK ROW! Coordinate your body and create dance moves that reveal character. Also dive into dialogue and character development as you learn how to memorize lines and  conform your body and voice to fit the scene. There will be a performance of the songs and scenes from the class on the last day of class, Tuesday, November 1st at 4:30pm; at the end, each actor will take their professional bow!

Saturdays

Youth Classes (Ages 7-10)

Musical Theatre featuring Encanto 

Time: 9-10 AM
Instructor: John Rea
Price: $220

You've seen the Disney movie featuring music by Lin Manuel Miranda, now perform the Encanto songs on stage. This class will get you in sync with your fellow actors and having a great time. Strengthen your confidence and musical theatre presence as you learn Waiting on a Miracle, Surface Pressure, We Don't Talk About Bruno and more. Learn to project your voice, take your dance moves to the next level, and interpret these fantastic songs as only you can.

Acting Wicked

Time: 10-11 AM
Instructor: Jen Jaynes

Let’s take scenes from the hit Broadway show, Wicked and bring them to life!  You'll practice the building blocks of acting such as memorization and projecting your voice, but your confidence as an actor will really grow as you explore what it means to create fully formed, three dimensional characters! There will be a live performance of all the scenes in the class at the end of the final class on Saturday, November 5. This class is highly recommended for those actors auditioning for our Fall production of The Wizard of Oz.


Production Class featuring The Minion Birthday Surprise

Time: 11 AM - 12:30 PM

Be part of a world premiere new comedy by John Rea called, The Minion Birthday Surprise.  If you like the Despicable Me movies then you'll love playing the hilarious minions.  They are tasked by Gru to perform Goldilocks and the Three Bears for the birthday of his daughter, Margo, and it all goes haywire. Learn how to project your voice and develop your character. Get into the act of working with an ensemble to tell a funny story. There will be a live performance on Saturday, November 5 at 5 PM. The cast size is limited so sign up today!

Middler & Teen Classes (ages 11-18)

Character Acting
Time: 9-10 AM
Dates: Saturdays, September 24 - November 12*

Take your acting to the next level. Get to the heart of your character. Discover how to break down dialogue, move with purpose, and build a character.  Practice building your memory skills, projecting your voice, and enunciating clearly. We'll be employing scenes from contemporary dramas and comedies.

*Note: This class starts one week later than others and ends one week later.


Wicked
and The Wiz Musical Theatre Class
Time: 10-11 AM
Instructor: John Rea

Get ready for all things Wizard of Oz! We'll be working on songs from Wicked and The Wiz.  Get your arms, legs, and voice in sync to Ease on Down the Road, Home, Dancing Through Life and The Wizard and I.  This class will get you moving with your fellow actors and having a great time. Strengthen your confidence and musical theatre presence. Learn to project your voice, take your dance moves to the next level, and interpret these fantastic songs as only you can.


Production Class featuring Santaland Diaries
Time: 11 AM - 12:30 PM
Instructor: John Rea
Price: $270

Ready to stretch yourself as an actor? Director, John Rea, will lead you through a holiday adventure as dozens of characters in David Sedaris' hilarious play, Santaland Diaries.  The play follows Sedaris as he gains employment at Macys during a holiday season, and learns to play an elf helping Santa.  We'll take you step by step and help you build your confidence and take acting chances that will delight our audience. There will be a performance on Saturday, November 5 at 7 PM.


Comedy Improv
Time: 1-2 PM
Dates: Saturdays, September 24 - November 12*

Ready to bring forth your creative sense of humor? Get your funny on while you learn to create comedy on the spot, using simple suggestions and your own top-of-your-head responses. Comedy and the ability to bring humor to a situation serves you in every aspect of your life. We have a long tradition of creating comedy improv at MacGuffin, with our expert comedians performing in This Side Up Comedy Improv Troupe. This class is a perfect first step in learning how to work with partners, make up wacky jokes and characters, and test your limits…all while having a great time! If you like the tv show Whose Line is it Anyway, you can’t miss this class!

Most classes are 1 hour in length. Exceptions:
- Production Classes (90 minutes)
- Little Twister Classes (45 minutes)

Tuition can be fully refundable up until September 1. After that, 50% of tuition can be refundable up until 9:30am, September 18.
