Little Twister Classes (ages 4-6)

Under the Sea

Mondays
Time: 4-4:45 PM
Ages 4-5
January 17 - March 7
Instructor: Emma Ditnes

Dive in and join us on and under the sea! Imaginations spring to life as you become characters from The Little Mermaid, Peter Pan and SpongeBob SquarePants. Learn how to speak, sing and dance for an audience. Find your voice and build confidence as you learn to speak and sing clearly…all the way to the BACK ROW! Coordinate your body and create dance moves that reveal character.  There will be a performance of the songs from the class on the last day of class, Monday, March 7th at 4:30pm; at the end, each actor will take their professional bow!

Under the Sea Plus

Tuesdays
Time: 4-4:45 PM
Ages 5-6
January 18 - March 8
Instructor: Emma Ditnes

Youth Classes (Ages 7-10)

From Page to Stage 

Time: 9-10 AM
Instructor: Emma Ditnes

Let’s take the classic words of Shel Silverstein and bring them to life! As we work together towards a culminating performance of short scenes and monologues, you will gain experience and practice the building blocks of acting including: memorization, projecting your voice, and using your body to express yourself. Your confidence as an actor will grow as you create fully formed, three dimensional characters! This class will culminate in a performance, either live or pre-recorded. Details will be shared by the instructor at the start of the session.

 

Production Class 

Time: 10 - 11:30 AM
Instructor: John Rea

Be part of a world premiere new musical by John Rea and Kate Leone called Fangore Forest.  When a young snake tries to impress her master hunter mother by capturing her first mouse who happens to be a princess, a challenge to forest boundaries stirs up the snake and mouse territories. Can predator and prey come to an agreement and release the princess without involving King Lion?  With a new rock and roll score containing plenty of solo opportunities, this musical comedy offers great parts for young actors. Learn how to project your voice and develop your character. Get into the act of working with an ensemble to tell a dramatic story. There will be a filmed performance on Saturday, March 12 at 7 PM. The cast size is limited so sign up today!

The Musicals of Stephen Schwartz
Time: 9-10 AM
Instructor: John Rea

Take a deep dive into the musicals of Tony and Oscar winning composer/lyricist, Stephen Schwartz. We will explore songs from The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Wicked, The Prince of Egypt and Enchanted.  Strengthen your confidence and musical theatre presence. Learn to project your voice, take your dance moves to the next level, and interpret these fantastic songs as only you can.

Acting Shakespeare
Time: 10-11 AM
Instructor: Emma Ditnes

“Experience is the teacher of all things.” Get your Shakespeare experience right here. This class is a must for the cast of our Spring Shakespeare production and every actor who wants to take on Shakespeare. Learn to break down the language and put a Shakespearean character into your body. Scenes from Shakespeare’s comedies and tragedies plays will be rehearsed. Learn to memorize your lines, project your voice, enunciate clearly, and animate your body to fit the character.

Film Acting
Time: 12-1 PM
Instructor: John Rea

Ready to put your acting skills to the test and make a short films? We’re going shoot 5 original comedy sketches. Learn how to use props and prepare and create memorable characters for the screen. Get the film experience you need! All the sketches will premiere on MacGuffin's YouTube Channel.

Comedy Improv
Time: 1-2 PM
Instructor: Jen Jaynes

Making people laugh is one of the great joys in life. Get your funny on while you learn to create comedy on the spot, using simple suggestions and your own top-of-your-head responses. Comedy and the ability to bring humor to a situation serves you in every aspect of your life. We have a long tradition of creating comedy improv at MacGuffin, with our expert comedians performing in This Side Up Comedy Improv Troupe. This class is a perfect first step in learning how to work with partners, make up wacky jokes and characters, and test your limits…all while having a great time! If you like the tv show Whose Line is it Anyway, you can’t miss this class!

Sunday Class

Stage Combat: Street Brawl

Time: 11-12:30 PM
Ages 12-18
Instructor: Brian Cowden

Ever wonder how actors fight on stage or in films? It’s all an illusion. No one gets hurt, but it looks like they do. Work with Brian, a certified fight choreographer and longtime MacGuffin combat instructor, to create the components of a realistic (and safe!) street brawl using a variety of found object weapons as well as hand-to-hand combat. Learning how to create a fight will add a new dimension to your acting skills and storytelling.

This class is a must for anyone cast in a fighting role in our Spring production of Romeo + Juliet, and is open to any interested students within the age range.
